The Coconut Fiber Gift Bag is a unique handcrafted product that combines sustainability, craftsmanship, and Timorese innovation. Carefully made by a women’s artisan group in Baucau Municipality, each bag is produced using recycled coconut fiber (coconut coir)—an agricultural by-product that is transformed into a durable and attractive material instead of becoming waste.
This product was developed through the Coconut Coir Production and Prototyping Training under the Brand Timor Initiative, empowering local women with new skills to create environmentally friendly products while generating sustainable livelihoods.
The bag’s design was created through a collaboration between the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Timor-Leste (AEMTL), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the European Union (EU), combining modern design with locally sourced organic materials.
